Soroptimist International of La Conner is a non-profit, volunteer service organization committed to assisting women and girls in our community and throughout the world. We are one of many like-minded chapters throughout the United States and across the globe whose concerted efforts are very effective in changing the lives women and children. While most of our focus is at the grass roots level, we also support many international programs that effect change in many countries.
We will share our time, talents, and financial resources to enrich our communities. Together, we will:
- Improve the lives of women and girls
- Help women achieve economic and political equality
- Serve as a global voice for women
- Provide outstanding leadership development opportunities for women
- Enhance world peace and understanding
Soroptimist International of La Conner (SILC) members come from a wide variety of life and work experiences and believe in the ideals and programs we support. SILC members value the gift of friendship, the gift of giving, the gift of lending a hand, and are proud to be members of a worldwide organization that can truly make a difference.
At SILC we determine the focus of the work that we do in our community. Projects have included our Christmas Secret Santa Program; Dress a Girl around the World; Soroptimist Campaign to End Domestic Violence; local project to build Awareness of Human Trafficking; Community Baby Showers; a variety of scholarships and awards to high school graduates and single moms; assistance when needed to local groups and individuals and recognizing outstanding efforts of women who work so hard to better their community and opportunities within that community.
We also support organizational wide programs such as Women’s Opportunity Award, Ruby Award, Violet Richardson Award, Soroptimist Stop Trafficking, to name a few.
All of these programs are funded primarily through the revenue generated from Vintage La Conner, our consignment and thrift shop located in the town of La Conner in Skagit Valley. We have additional fundraisers each year that not only raise supplementary funds for our programs, but that support the congeniality and fun that our membership enjoys.
Soroptimist International of La Conner was founded in 1996 with 48 charter members. It was chartered by SI Burlington – the largest club to charter the smallest town, historical La Conner.
“The gift of Soroptimist membership provides a variety of benefits including personal fulfillment, friendships all over the world, networking, leadership development, and an avenue to serve as a mentor reaching out to women…
