Pat Paulson, SILC club member
Helping to put a stop to human trafficking in Skagit County is SILC member, Pat Paulson. Pat has been very busy delivering the Deceptions program to middle schools.
Deceptions is a school-based awareness program for youth in middle and high schools. It builds awareness and provides tools for exposing the lures of child sex trafficking and internet dangers. The program teaches students about healthy relationships and boundaries as well as how to protect themselves and others from this form of modern day slavery.
The Deceptions program continues to be a passion for Pat, who is finding the school kids’ reactions to the program so interesting. Children and teachers have asked Pat to return to the school and present the program again. “Students often tell me they wish their parents could attend the sessions,” Pat said.
Future deliveries of the Deceptions program are scheduled for Anacortes Middle School in April and additional sessions in Burlington in May.
The Deceptions curriculum was developed by Northwest Family Services in Portland, Oregon. If you are interested in bringing Deceptions to your school, contact Northwest Family Services.
